On February 29th, 96 community members attended the listening session for the pilot alternate response unit program: a community-led initiative anchored by Emancipate NC that seeks to decrease the number of interactions between armed law enforcement and people experiencing mental health crises through a 911 crisis call diversion center, and unarmed dispatch teams of clinicians who can provide assistance on demand.

This listening session was part of a months long community engagement initiative that has engaged more than 1,000 Raleigh residents. Next, the Council will hear a report on this engagement process in advance of a future meeting when they will vote on whether to approve the pilot and allocate up to $3 million in funding. ONE Wake leaders have pledged to deliver over 120 Raleigh residents to show support during this future meeting, and this report will be our first opportunity to see how the Council is leaning.

There is a livestream available on the website linked above for those who can't make it to a 1:00 pm meeting.

Will you come?
