Housing affordability in Wake County has reached a crisis level. This crisis is not inevitable—it is the result of political choices, and it can be addressed with political will. But that will only emerge if our leaders see that the public is organized, engaged, and demanding action.
This gathering will begin as an internal ONE Wake assembly, where members will ratify proposals and plans for the 2026 organizing cycle. During the second hour, we will transition into a public Accountability Assembly with Raleigh elected officials. At that time, officials will be asked directly where they stand on ONE Wake’s 2025 demands:
- Establishing a $200 million affordable housing bond
- Allocating 100 acres of land for affordable housing development
This moment is strategically important. City leaders are approaching the period when budgets are finalized. Showing up in large numbers sends a clear signal that the community expects stronger commitments and concrete investment in affordable housing.
Participation from all ONE Wake institutions and municipalities is essential. Even if you do not live in Raleigh, members of your institutions do. The decisions made by Raleigh’s leadership affect the broader region. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. reminded us, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
Turnout is how we build power—relational power.
Help us meet our turnout goal of 500 people
