Preserve Affordable Rents in Cary!

We need our members from across Wake County to show up in force and prevent Amberwood apartments, an affordable complex in Cary, from going the way of Chatham Estates. Meet in the lobby of Cary's Town Hall at 6:15 p.m. Wear ONE Wake t-shirts and stand with those at risk of losing affordable rents.

The Raleigh Housing Authority (RHA) is pursuing the acquisition of Amberwood at Lochmere, a 340 apartment community at 100 Eclipse Drive in Cary, to own and operate for the long term. This acquisition would preseve the community's affordable rents for the future. This is one of the few remaining properties in Cary where rents are below average. RHA's plan is to hold the property as-is, not displacing any current residents.

Under conventional ownership, Amberwood rents would likely increase once the property is purchased, reducing the number of affordable rental units in Cary.

Similar to Chatham Estates, renters are vulnerable when they do not own the land under their homes. Cary has an opportunity to prevent displacement of these residents by allowing the Raleigh Housing Authority to operate within the town's jurisdiction.

Amberwood's neighbors are mobilizing to block this action. ONE Wake sees this as a huge opportunity to keep Naturally Occurring Affordable Housing intact. Join us in this fight for affordability!

Will you come?
