Next Tuesday (11/09) the Cary Town Council will receive a draft housing plan from Town staff during their meeting starting at 6:30 pm. This is great timing coming just before our candidate assembly on affordable housing next Thursday (11/11).
This plan calls for at least three strategies that are advantageous for our immediate and longer term housing goals in Cary: 1) the creation of a local housing fund; 2) use of publicly owned land for housing; and 3) strong collaboration with, and funding for housing nonprofits.
Cary Core Team leaders met Wednesday night to discuss the upcoming ONE Wake assembly and the Cary housing plan. The general consensus is that this is a step in the right direction and should be encouraged - with the understanding that there are areas that could use improvement, and that we need more specific details on the creation of a local housing fund that will be necessary to support some elements of the plan (including our Penny for Housing proposal).
Leaders ratified a plan to send at least 50 members in person to the Council Chambers in support. A ONE Wake advance team will greet all members outside the Town Hall to distribute small signs with a simple message so that we can be identified as a group.
