ONE Wake Launches IAF University

IAF UNIVERSITY is a way for you to act on your values with allies from ONE Wake’s 43 member institutions across Wake County. It is a three month commitment (March - May) of 2 hours a month that includes training and doing.

At the monthly trainings there will be concrete next steps to build people power and to take action (virtually) with others-- on existing ONE Wake issue campaigns. All this will prepare us collectively for larger-scale work to effect change within multiple towns and cities across the county during the upcoming fall municipal elections.*

The IAF University curriculum includes:

  • How to move beyond protest and petitions to organize people to bring about long-term systemic change;

  • How to implement the nuts and bolts of organizing: relational meetings, power analysis, how to build a core team in your institution, how to run a research action, and how to get the reactions you want in meetings with elected leaders;

  • How to take what you are hearing in the community and flex your organizing muscle to create change locally;

Affordable Housing Team Starts Year with Record Turnout

Close to 80 members of the ONE Wake Affordable Housing Team met Tuesday night to discuss and shape ONE Wake's 2021 power strategy for affordable housing.

The major opportunity this fall is to win support for affordable housing construction on county owned land though a series of strictly non-partisan public actions with candidates running for office in up to five municipalities. Given that off year, municipal elections are historically low turnout and low information, ONE Wake is in a strong position to make affordable housing a top election issue this fall.

The Affordable Housing Team committed to break into municipal sub-groups to begin a series of research actions necessary to prepare proposals for our candidate actions this fall.

Join hundreds of ONE Wake leaders from institutions across Wake County for our internal assembly on February 25.

During our assembly we will evaluate our public launch and the political lessons that we learned last year as ONE Wake entered the public arena for the first time, and we will introduce a power building strategy for 2021 for review and ratification by the full membership of the organization.

Please join us for this important assembly. All ONE Wake member institutions are asked to bring their full Core Teams (5-15 of your most engaged leaders).

Registration for the meeting is available here.
