We want to share some important updates regarding ONE Wake as we enter an exciting new chapter.
Leadership Updates
After giving the Strategy Team 10 months notice earlier this year, ONE Wake Lead Organizer Devin Ross will be stepping into a new role outside of the organization, effective January 1. Additionally, Katia Roebuck has accepted a new assignment within the NC Congress of Latino Organizations, where she will continue her impactful work supporting Latino immigrant communities in Durham.
We are thrilled to announce that the ONE Wake Strategy Team has unanimously voted to promote ONE Wake Organizer Stephon Whitley to the position of Lead Organizer. Over the past four years, Stephon has excelled at developing and connecting community leaders with shared interest, and providing strategic guidance on high profile issue campaigns that delivered real results, including:
-
Securing a $5 million pilot program to combat rising housing cost burdens disproportionately affecting low-income homeowners in historically disinvested African American communities.
-
ONE Wake’s largest in-person action to date: a local candidate assembly attended by over 1,000 people, which resulted in commitments including an increase in Raleigh’s affordable housing funding by $40 million.
A New Chapter for ONE Wake
Since our public launch on October 13, 2020—an event attended by more than 2,200 members of ONE Wake institutions—we have made great strides toward realizing the vision born from four formative years of pre-organizing from 2016 - 2020. As highlighted in our 2024 Annual Report, we have accomplished meaningful change together, and the stories shared in this report reflect the power built by our collective efforts.
As we look ahead, ONE Wake is ready to take bold steps toward transformative, large-scale affordable housing development in 2025.
Save the Date: March 20 Annual Meeting
Given that these leadership transitions coincide with the holiday season, we invite you to join us for a formal celebration and transition at our Annual Meeting on March 20. Please register in advance here. It will be a time to reflect, connect, and energize our collective work for the year ahead.
Staying Connected
To ensure a seamless transition, we have updated our staff contacts page, where you can find the latest information on how to stay connected with our team. Additionally, our events page features upcoming Core Team trainings and actions that will launch our work in the new year. Devin Ross has invited all ONE Wake leaders who want to stay connected to follow him on LinkedIn here.
While we have worked diligently to ensure a smooth handover, we kindly ask for your patience and understanding during the first few months of 2025 as we adapt to these changes.
Thank you for your unwavering support, dedication, and trust in ONE Wake. Together, we look forward to a transformative and impactful year ahead.
